Biography

Robert “Bob” Breault was born in Naugatuck, Connecticut in 1941.  He hunted down crystalline rocks in the woods, made rockets and fired them off in town.

In 1954, as an eighth-grader, he decided to be a fighter pilot, a scientific space explorer and get a PhD from the University of Arizona doing spaced based research. He graduated from Yale in 1962 with a B.S. in Math, went to OTS, Vance AFB, 64E for pilot training, then, Luke for F100 training.

He was assigned to the 614TFS, England AFB.  He went to Alaska doing Polar Strike as an Umpire, then TDY to Misawa, Kunsan, Korat as a F-100 Wild Weasel pilot, Phan Rang, and in 1967 went PCS to Nellis as an instructor to train Weasels.  H

e resigned from the USAF in 1969 to get his M.S. in ’72 and PhD in Optics ‘79.

He is Chairman and founder of the Breault Research Organization, Inc. (BRO). In 1979, he created the science of stray light analysis. BRO sells optical engineering software to over 40 countries.  He helped redesign the Hubble, SPITZER, XMM, LIGO Cassini, and other telescopes.

He helped create the Arizona Optics Cluster and has done Cluster economic development in 38 countries.
